I stitched the sampler as it was charted except for the date. It was charted in cross stitch, but since there wasn't enough room for the number two I backstitched it. The photo on the pattern envelope had the checkerboard border all the way around, but the chart did not. Carol stitched hers like the photo, and you can find it on her blog if you click the link above.
I love this tree filled with Smyrna crosses.
Subtle details are a favorite of mine like these little buttons sewn in the lower right hand corner.
I enjoyed our SAL very much Carol, and I hope we can do one together again in the future. Thanks so much for your visit, and I hope everyone has a very enjoyable weekend!

I LOVE watermelon and I LOVE this design...fabulous!
I saw YELLOW watermelons for the first time here this week - didn´t even know such things existed.
Congrats on your finish! I agree with you, the tree looks wonderful. I've been eating watermelon every day. It's one of the fruits/veggies that we can only get in summer here - we can get almost everything else year round.
Your finish is wonderful, Nancy--I just love it! And I really enjoyed stitching this with you--even if it was long-distance...
I'm sure I'll be reminded of you and our SAL every time I enjoy watermelon this summer :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Lovely little piece, as always you choose well. The detailed stitching on the tree is very neat, these special stitches make all the difference.
Sweet! As watermelons are!!
Beautiful piece!
Nice weekend!
Nancy, this is absolutely gorgeous. Water melons will always remind me of Cyprus. During water melon season farmers would sit by the roadsides in the hazy sizzling sunshine (under enormous umbrellas) with a huge mountain of water melons for sale. The deafening sound of cicadas would fill the air around them. What evocative sights and sounds.
This lovely designs sums it all up. I love the way you have personalized this design and the pretty way you have stitched the border.
